How to fix your Windows 7 64-bit slow boot time
February 10, 2010
I have a fast computer - Lenovo ThinkStation S10 running 6GB of RAM - but after the latest Security Update, my typical boot time went from under one minute to almost five minutes.
If you’re also experiencing this slowdown, here’s a fix:
1. Click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > System Configuration.
2. With the General tab selected, click the Selective startup option and un-check the Load startup items option.
3. Click the Services tab and check the Hide all Microsoft services option.
4. Click the Disable all button.
5. Click Apply > OK. You’ll get a system message asking to restart. Give’r.
6. When your system reboots in record time - hooray! - log in and click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > System Configuration.
7. With the General tab selected, click the Normal startup option.
8. Click the Services tab and then click the Enable all button.
9. Click Apply > OK. You’ll get a system message asking to restart. Go for it.
That’s it. Your computer reboot time should be back to normal.
